What does a Postpartum Doula Do?
Babies don’t come with instruction manuals - while this time is exciting it can also be stressful. The time after bringing new ones home should be honored as a time of rejuvenation, healing, growth and deep bonding with babies. Having someone who offers nonjudgmental support, a listening ear, companionship and encouragement empowers parents to realize their own potential. Each family is unique and needs vary, so we work together to tailor support to your family specifically. Below are some common ways a doula helps a family.
Help with emotional and physical recovery after birth
Assistance with newborn care
Infant feeding support - guidance with breastfeeding, chestfeeding, bottle feeding and/or pumping
Baby soothing techniques
Sibling and pet care
Referrals to local resources as needed
Light meal preparation, laundry, housekeeping, shopping
Provide emotional support as families adjust
Recognize signs of postpartum anxiety or depression
